The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine eligibility for lectureship and award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The application form submission for UGC NET Economics usually begins in March; the last date is in the first week of April. Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Economics with 55% marks.

The exam pattern comprises two papers – Paper I on teaching/research aptitude and Paper II on the chosen subject. The exams are typically held in June at designated centres across India.

There are limited seats, and candidates are selected based on merit. The fee for the general category is Rs.1000, while reserved categories pay Rs.500.

Results are declared within a month of the exam. Qualifying candidates must then appear for an interview to be eligible for JRF. Selected candidates can take admission and receive scholarships at recognized universities/colleges in India.
